Join Landlord Engagement Services and Homeward House Collaborative for Foundations of Harm Reduction, provided by the National Harm Reduction Coalition.

🌟  Harm reduction is a set of practical strategies and ideas aimed at reducing negative consequences associated with drug use and other behaviors 🌟

When: Friday, October 20th, 11:00am-1:30pm

Training Overview: This online training will provide participants with a comprehensive overview of Harm Reduction. This approach incorporates a practical set of strategies designed to prevent disease and promote health by “meeting people where they are” rather than making judgments about where they should be in terms of their personal health and lifestyle. Recognizing that not everyone is ready or able to stop risk behavior, harm reduction focuses on promoting ways to reduce the health risks associated with drug use and other high risk behaviors. This course will assist providers in more effectively engaging their clients in a range of interventions to reduce the risk of harm.

Learning Objectives:

  • Define three key principles of harm reduction
  • Explore the harm reduction premise that the client is the expert and is responsible for choosing the type and timing of behavior change
  • List at least three harm reduction options for substance use behaviors

This will be the first of a series of harm reduction trainings provided by the National Harm Reduction Coalition.

Presenter: Alixe Dittmore (she/her) is the Training and Content Development Coordinator at the National Harm Reduction Coalition. She has provided harm reduction education and services to people in active drug addiction through mental health services, group homes, sexual health services, street outreach and drop-in centers. At the coalition, she provides training on overdose prevention, HIV and HCV testing, motivational interviewing, risk reduction, de-escalation, and best practices.
